Project Implmentation Details
Screening Approach
1. HPV PCR Testing:
- Utilize existing GeneXpert machines (currently used for TB testing) to perform HPV PCR tests.
- This method is now recommended as the primary screening tool for cervical cancer.
2. Visual Inspection:
- Trained nurses will perform visual inspection of the cervix using mobile colposcopy.
- This allows for immediate identification of any suspicious lesions.
3. Same-Day Treatment:
- If precancerous lesions are identified, nurses will provide immediate treatment using portable thermal ablation devices.
- This “screen and treat” approach helps prevent loss to follow-up.
Training Program
- Collaborate with the Cervical Cancer Prevention and Training Center at Battor to train nurses in screening and treatment techniques.
- Implement a task-shifting approach, empowering nurses to take charge of the entire screening and early treatment process.
Data Collection and Analysis
- Collect data on screening outcomes, treatment rates, and patient experiences.
- Analyze the effectiveness and feasibility of the integrated screening approach.
- Use findings to inform the development of a national program framework.
Collaboration and Oversight
- Work closely with the National AIDS/STD Control Program to ensure alignment with existing HIV care protocols.
- Engage with the National TB Control Program to coordinate the use of GeneXpert machines.
- Collaborate with partner hospitals and clinics to implement the screening program within their existing HIV care services.
